Nigeria’s fastest man this year, Konyinsola Ajayi, says he is not bothered by the form of some American athletes who are tagged favourites and contenders for the 100m title, ahead of the 2025 World Championships in Tokyo.

Currently ranked 13th in the world this year, Ajayi is one of the few Nigerian athletes to have qualified for the World Championships, which will hold from September 13 to 21 in Tokyo, Japan, thanks to his run at the Paris 2024 Olympics, where he reached the semi-finals.

The 20-year-old returned to home soil last weekend to compete in the Nigeria National Trials in Lagos, but he pulled out of the 100m final as a precaution to avoid a knock.

While the Nigerian championships was on, American athlete Kenny Bednarek notched his best-ever performance by winning the US Championships with a personal best 9.79s, while others followed in different sub-10s performances.
